The other day, I went to Sullivan Hall for the CD launch of FL Jones’ CD: BECOMING MYSELF. The band was tight and FL killed it! A great night and the crowed went wild. For those who don’t know, FL was the music supervisor for WHIRLWIND. It’s a great album so if you don’t have it, get it at www.fljones.com.
Brent Hartinger from AFTERELTON.com asks Richard about where the characters in WHIRLWIND came from. To read the interview, click here.
Saturday night was the launch party for the DVD release of WHIRLWIND at Therapy in mid-town. About 200 people showed up and had a blast. I was easily the most sober one there. All in all a great night.

WHIRLWIND has climbed to the top of the best seller list for Wolfe Video. Still in pre-sales, WHIRLWIND debuted at #3 and within a few weeks has steadily made it’s way up to #1. The film is set for release on DVD on January 27, 2009. For more information about WHIRLWIND, visit Wolfe Video at www.wolfevideo.com.
It’s official. Wolfe bought the US/Canada rights to WHIRLWIND. It’s release date is January 27th. They have also signed on as our official sales agent for foreign distribution as well. As I said earlier, Wolfe is the largest company to distribute films in that genre so this is really exciting. Great news for the end of a long year. I can’t believe I forgot to mention it. Oh well…
Award winning Gay titles boost aggressive DVD release screening schedule for 2009
November 3, 2008, Santa Monica, Calif.—Wolfe Video has announced it has acquired North American rights to several acclaimed gay titles at this year’s AFM Market.
Among the titles announced by Wolfe Video head Maria Lynn are “Whirlwind” and “Mulligans.”
“Whirlwind” A smart and sexy exposé about the complexity of gay relationships, is a touching, funny ensemble film exploring non-monogamy, commitment, friendship and more—against the urban backdrop of the Big Apple. WHIRLWIND hales from director Richard Le May (200 American) and Emmy-winning writer Jason Brown (Tender Places). The film’s cast also includes talented stage actors: Bryan West (Hairspray), Alexis Suarez, Desmond Dutcher and Mark Ford. WHIRLWIND won the Audience Award for Best Feature at Atlanta’s OUT ON FILM Festival, and was also showcased at prestigious festivals OUTFEST in Los Angeles and NEWFEST. DVD release date is January 27, 2009.
“Mulligans” A young man invites his college buddy home for the summer holidays and a secret is revealed that threatens to tear his perfect family apart. When his mother discovers her husband in an unspeakable affair, the family’s world begins to collapse. The summer is ripe with adventure, revelations, and betrayal as this family learns how to laugh, cry and love again. The film is directed by Chip Hale and starring Charlie David (Dante’s Cove), Thea Gill (Dante’s Cove), Dan Payne (Stargate) and Derek Baynham. DVD release date is Spring 2009.
The acquisitions are part of an aggressive slate of gay titles for Wolfe Video following a year of successful lesbian releases.

WHIRLWIND has been chosen as the closing night film for the Long Island Gay and Lesbian Film Festival this year. Other festival stops are Chicago, Pittsburgh and Memphis.
I never even mentioned that before I got here, my new movie WHIRLWIND screened as part of NEWFEST in New York City. We had 2 packed screenings and the response was overwhelming. A really positive reception from the NYC crowds.
The next week we got our first good review in VARIETY.
I’m having a good week…that is until we lost our grip truck in customs this morning.
But I’m gonna light some candles and kill a chicken later on. Everything is gonna work out.
